Biography

Prof. Andrew Whitelaw is a clinical microbiologist and Head of the Division of Medical Microbiology at Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Hospital NHLS, a position he has held since December 2012. His research focuses on the epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance, the clinical impact and control of AMR and hospital-acquired infections, and genomic diagnostics and surveillance. Prof. Whitelaw is a past president of the Infection Control Society of Southern Africa and has served two terms on the South African Ministerial Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance (MAC-AMR). He brings deep expertise in infection control, antimicrobial stewardship, and translational health systems research to the EXCEL-PHARM consortium.
