Our Mission
Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) is committed to advancing academic excellence, fostering regional and international collaboration, and serving as a hub for knowledge and innovation in West Africa. As part of its strategic vision, UCAD actively promotes academic mobility, strengthening cooperation with partner institutions and supporting internationalization of training and research programs. Recent initiatives emphasize the university's role in facilitating cross-border academic exchanges, enhancing the mobility of students and faculty, and building an integrated academic space across Africa and beyond.
Facilities & Resources
The Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Odonto‑Stomatology (FMPOS) at Cheikh Anta Diop University hosts a wide network of research laboratories, with a total of 57 laboratories dedicated to teaching, clinical training, and advanced research. The Department of Medical Biology and Functional Explorations maintains specialized laboratories in clinical biochemistry, haematology, parasitology, microbiology, and functional diagnostics. Laboratories in Biological and Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences include units in physiology, immunology, human genetics, bacteriology–virology, and pharmacology.
UCAD provides students with robust digital learning infrastructure, including platforms for distance education, online course resources, and digital pedagogical tools. Students also benefit from well-equipped laboratories and specialized training centres at institutions such as the École Supérieure Polytechnique (ESP) and ENSETP.
The Central University Library (BUCAD) offers access to over 250,000 volumes and operates a comprehensive digital library containing theses, dissertations, rare works, and publications by UCAD researchers, accessible through advanced search tools.
International Collaborations & Achievements
UCAD maintains an extensive network of over 350 active international cooperation agreements covering Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia, supporting joint research, staff and student mobility, and academic exchange.
Notable collaborations include: Université Paris Cité (France) — strengthened partnerships in environmental sciences, AI, and climate transition, including joint training and short-term mobility schemes; Université de Montréal (Canada) — a long-term collaboration to harmonise nursing sciences training (HaForSi) and support doctoral training for Senegalese faculty; and Université de Namur (Belgium) — joint One Health research and mobility exchanges since 2015, including co-supervised PhDs and reciprocal teaching mobility.
UCAD’s Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Odonto-Stomatology (FMPOS) is recognised in international academic rankings, with UCAD ranked 1001+ worldwide in Medical and Health Sciences (THE, 2026).

MSc in Human Physiology
The Master's programme in Human Physiology is designed to give students an in-depth understanding of physiological processes and pathophysiological mechanisms. The programme aims to: • Equip students with the knowledge of human physiology, including molecular and systemic aspects. • Develop competencies in biomedical research, emphasising experimental techniques and scientific analysis. • Provide a solid foundation for further doctoral studies or a career in academic teaching, research, and healthcare. • Enhance research skills, including statistical analysis, bioinformatics, and the ability to conduct scientific writing and presentations.
MSc in Biological Sciences (Histology, Embryology, and Cytogenetics)
The course is intended for medical, pharmacy, dentistry, and science students seeking to enhance their expertise in this domain. The training prioritizes a functional methodology inside a cohesive framework of techniques, concepts, and disciplines. Histology, Embryology, and Cytogenetics are fundamental disciplines crucial for all medical and paramedical education and are essential for all healthcare.
Master of Biotechnology and Innovative Therapy
The Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Biotechnology) aims to train professionals capable of playing a key role in research, development, production and marketing of biotechnology products for human health, such as drugs, innovative treatments and advanced therapeutic solutions. The main objectives for the trainees are: a) Gain advanced knowledge of the concepts of biotechnology, molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry, bioinformatics and molecular modeling tools. b) Master biotechnological processes applied to the production of biomedicines, such as vaccines, gene therapies or monoclonal antibodies. c) Gain technical skills on fermentation, cell culture, bioprocesses, quality control and validation methods in the pharmaceutical industry. d) Understand international regulations related to the development and production of biotech drugs. e) Be prepared for careers in the pharmaceutical industry, biotech companies, academic research laboratories or regulatory bodies.

EU-Funded EXCEL-PHARM Project Launched
The Erasmus+ funded EXCEL-PHARM project was officially launched in a two-day inception meeting hosted by the University of Cape Coast, bringing together six partner institutions from Africa and Europe to enhance postgraduate pharmaceutical and health sciences education.
